The Roots are moving closer to finishing their long-awaited album Endgame while looking back at some of the moments that shaped their career. In a recent interview ahead of the group’s Hip-Hop Hall of Fame induction, Questlove and Black Thought discussed the project’s long development and the pressure of deciding what material will make the final cut.
Questlove said his perfectionism has played a role in the delays, while Black Thought explained that the group is now narrowing down the songs. The album is also expected to include guest appearances, although no names have been confirmed.
The conversation also revisited The Roots’ 2003 Grammy performance with Eminem, when they joined him for Lose Yourself. Questlove described that period as an important stage in the group’s rise, following years of touring and collaboration.
