Madelyn Cline had an emotional reaction when she learned that Sabrina Carpenter’s House Tour music video had earned a 2026 MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Direction. During an appearance on Today, host Carson Daly surprised Cline with the news, prompting an immediate mix of excitement and disbelief.

The nomination announcement puts new attention on the playful video, which was co-directed by Carpenter and Margaret Qualley. Cline appears alongside the pair as they arrive at a mansion in a pink van and turn the luxury home upside down in a stylish, mischievous sequence inspired by high-profile Hollywood robbery stories.

Cline has previously described joining Carpenter’s creative world as a particularly meaningful experience. The video was filmed over two days and gave the three performers a chance to combine comedy, fashion and music in an intentionally exaggerated setting.

Carpenter enters the 2026 VMAs with seven nominations overall, placing her among this year’s most recognized artists. The ceremony is scheduled for September 27 in Los Angeles.
