Billy Strings added an unexpected piece of equipment to his stage outfit after being struck in the head by an object thrown from the crowd during a concert in Fishers, Indiana.

The incident happened on August 6 at Fishers Event Center, where the bluegrass musician was performing the first of three rescheduled shows. Video from the concert showed an object hitting Strings while he was speaking to the audience. He immediately addressed the situation from the stage and questioned why anyone would throw something at a performer.

When Strings returned for the second night on August 7, footage shared from the show showed him walking onstage wearing protective headgear, making a lighthearted reference to the previous evening.

The Fishers concerts had originally been scheduled for April. Strings postponed those dates after breaking his leg in a backstage skateboarding accident that required surgery.

Throwing objects at performers has become a recurring concert safety concern, with several musicians experiencing similar incidents in recent years.
