Chris Stapleton almost pursued a career in engineering before discovering his passion for songwriting and music. In a revealing 2022 60 Minutes interview that has just resurfaced on TikTok, Stapleton shared his journey from studying biomedical engineering to exploring a career in songwriting, which he was surprised to learn was something he could do for a living. “I didn’t even know it was a thing,” Stapleton confessed. “I just assumed when people sang songs on records that they made it up. And then I met somebody who was a songwriter, and it was just like—that’s a job? They’re going to pay you to sit in a room and make things up on guitar? I need that job.” Stapleton soon became one of the most sought-after songwriters in Nashville, eventually transitioning from a behind-the-scenes songwriter to a celebrated solo artist. Stapleton made his solo debut in 2015 with Traveller, and has gone on to win five Grammys and a total of 19 CMAs, while redefining the sound of modern country in the process. (All Country News)
